2018 BMW X2 Release Date, Specs and Price
Well, it is an old rumor. The stories about the coming of BMW X2 had been there since 2011, but we didn’t see anything yet until 2015. Finally, this small SUV hit the streets at the end of 2015 and then resurfaced again at the beginning of 2016 with heavy camouflaged. BMW has not made any official confirmation yet about the 2018 BMW X2, but the concept has been presented at 2016 Paris Motor Show. Recent reports showed about the test mule during winter conditions.
2018 BMW X2 has been spotted on the roads with the camouflaged look and its exterior design is still predictable. The concept has been seen at Paris Motor Show and it wouldn’t go to the production as is. There will be many fancy features to add. The idea is still similar to the X4 and X6 just like the X3 and the X5, the X2 has sportier and it will be the coupe-like version of the smallest crossover from BMW. From the prototypes, it is still a lack of hunched roofline of X4 and X6 for some people it is good. It doesn’t have a quarter window from X1 and the rear overhang is shorter. The wheelbase is the same as the X1 to provide good legroom. It has new design language with mild updates. It has identical front fascia with large twin-kidney grille and longer sleeker headlamp as the larger sibling. There are also larger air intakes to give more aggressive look. The rear end will be different from the previous model especially for the bumper but the tailgate and the rear windscreen are shorter. The taillights will be similar to the last but its cluster has the same configuration.
Although the concept was released by the official, they don’t provide us any hints in this department. We glad that spy photographer caught its prototype’s interior with the similar cabin design as the X1, but it will get new dashboard. 2018 BMW X2 also has floating infotainment display with the refined A/C vents. Some standard features are added such as 7-speaker audio system, multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, standard seats with cloth cover for the base model and leather upholstery as the optional. Others are 8.8-inch display, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic moonroof and more. The identical wheelbase supports this new generation to have similar legroom in the rear, even increased by 2.6 inches but the sloping roofline will provide less shoulder room and headroom.
2018 BMW X2 Engine
With the same UKL platform as the Mini Cooper and the X1, the new 2018 BMW X2 will use the same drivetrain as the smallest crossover of BMW. It will go with gasoline and diesel engines in three- and four-cylinder layout. It also has both Front-wheel and all-wheel drive, but the latter will be for the US market. For European, they will go with the base 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline for 134 hp and 162 pound-feet of torque with the use of six-speed auto and FWD only. The second gasoline engine will be the popular 2.0-liter four-banger for different power output. The sDrive20i and xDrive20i have 189 hp and 207 pound-feet while the xDrive25i has 228 hp and 258 pound-feet. The diesel will be 1.5-liter three-cylinder for 114 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque. It also has 2.0-liter four-pot with three outputs, the lower is 148 hp and 243 pound-feet of torque while the highest is 228 hp and 332 pound-feet of twist.
2018 BMW X2 is not more expensive than the Q2, and the release date is still unknown. It seems that the engine choice will determine the cost.
